That is provided by a package called "pirut". You can try doing a "yum
update pirut" but it might want to update its dependencies as well.

Howdy Everyone,

I'm new to RHREL 5.4 and am trying to setup an NTP server on my network.
I've done lots of googling and man page reading, but I'm still a bit
confused on a few things.

1. Do I need to have a step-tickers file? If so, why?

2. When I configure my client RHEL machines to access my NTP server, is it
better to run ntpd or use ntpdate in a cron job? I've seen articles with
people using both methods so I'm not sure which is better.

3. My ntp.conf file has a line that says "restrict default kod nomodify
notrap no peer noquery". Do I still need to have separate restrict lines
for each of my server entries or will that one line cover all of them? Eg.
restrict ntp.server.org mask 255.255.255.255 nomodify notrap noquery

Thanks guys.

Those are where it's looking for steps.

I assume you're online, not on dialup. If online, run the daemon. I only
use the ntpdate to sync the server up to start with, or if something's
happened.

You've got a default, further up.

I used MediaWiki. There's nothing if i use the edit. it just displays the
text i typed as it is. even if i use the [ ]. I had read about
"ExtensionFileLink" though -- does this basically, means, file linking in
the wiki is not enabled by default?

It might help if you told us *which* wiki software you have installed. It
also might help if you edit the wiki in the wiki editor, and see what it
tells you to use for a link.

Looking at the file:
/proc/4302/maps I don?t see anything that gives me any idea.

How can I detect the memory leak looking at this? How can I know where is
the memory?

Thanks,

ESG

That is provided by a package called "pirut". You can try doing a "yum
update pirut" but it might want to update its dependencies as well.

I've installed mediawiki several times, and linking is always available. I
don't remember if you need to have [[ rather than [, but the buttons
available in the editor know how to do the right thing.

Can you be more specific by "what is affected"? The system will notify you
of any dependencies that need to be updated when you run "yum update pirut"
and give you a chance to decide whether you would like to proceed or not.

If you are looking for files that change when you do an install, you could
always do something like "find / -cmin x" to see what files were modified in
the last x minutes.

yum update pirut will tell you what packages will be affected before they
are patched. Man yum for more information.

FYI, running a 5.0 box is a pretty major security risk.

I will like to know what files will be affected before I do the package
update/upgrade,
To determine if I do want to go ahead and update/upgrade.

How do I find out what is affected by updating the pirut package?

Thanks,

That is provided by a package called "pirut". You can try doing a "yum
update pirut" but it might want to update its dependencies as well.

To be more explicit - yum update will show you everything to be updated
(without anything, it will try to update the entire system)... but then
*ask* you [y/N]. This is as opposed to yum -y update <whatever>, which
will do it without stopping to ask.

Hi,

If you open # vim /etc/ntp.conf file then you can see bellow section :

# Use public servers from the pool.ntp.org project.
# Please consider joining the pool (http://www.pool.ntp.org/join.html).
server 0.centos.pool.ntp.org
server 1.centos.pool.ntp.org
server 2.centos.pool.ntp.org

now need to put ntp server there to sync with client machine
