Where does that leave us? The sam place as my other 49,999 competitors, as the 500 million new competitors (they just muddy the waters) get their cameras from Apple  and Samsung.

Of course, when I buy a photographic item from Amazon I note that the order is often shipped from a brick and mortar store somewhere. I have bought from a Seattle store as well as others through Amazon and received the same prices and service and shipping.  Where does that leave us?

The two top guns in the market are brick and mortar, B&H and Adomara, but they are firing on all different channels and are usually quite close to online-prices at amazon:

New retail sales, buying and selling used, direct internet sales, eBay, repairs, related services and adjacent fields like audio and entertainment electronics, plus big exposure on YouTube, Facebook, local and internet tutorials. I wonder how much each segment contributes to their sales and profits these days ...

Being close to Chicago, I used to run in and shop Calumet and Helix.  Maybe they are both gone now.  The best thing was being able to be hands on with a variety of items before you bought.  Of course, you probably then went online and bought from a cheaper source.  Transitional times for brick and mortar it seems.  A friend who owns a local camera store is just squeaking by with a University with photo courses in town and giving great service.

I buy from brick and mortal stores, but because there aren't any near me I buy online.  Some things I buy used from them, some things I buy used from eBay and sometimes it turns out the seller was a brick and mortar location.

The other day I drove up to Boston for an hour's private coaching session on PS CS 6 RAW converter at Levine's.  Last fall I stopped in there to get the full, hands-on lowdown on tools for improving DSLR video.  I was unwilling to purchase anything at that time, but brick and mortar stores a really valuable for that sort of shopping.

It is interesting to me that my online searches for products over the last 15 years have never led me to Calumet.
