Or you can connect the camera with the usb cable to the computer, click on MY COMPUTER, where you should find a listing of your drives as well as an icon for your camera.  Click on it - there will be several folders - look for the one with your images and copy them to a new folder on your harddrive.

Shyrell, as a Nikon, among others, user, I found long ago that the best way for me to work was to download to the computer via a card reader, ignore the camera maker software, and work with one of the Photoshop incarnations and/or Bridge, Lightroom or iPhoto.  Other options are available, of course, for the photo handling but I do really think you would be well served to get a card reader.  They are cheap and very useful.
