NTSB TO ISSUE SAFETY RECOMMENDATIONS ON AIR RACES AND PROVIDE INVESTIGATIVE UPDATE ON 2011 CRASH AT THE RENO AIR RACES

 

April 5, 2012

Washington, DC – On Tuesday, April 10, 2012, the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) will provide an investigative update on the fatal crash of a modified Mustang P-51D airplane during the 2011 National Championship Air Races in Reno, Nevada. The pilot of the P-51D and 10 spectators at the race were killed. During the press conference, the NTSB will release several safety recommendations directly related to improving safety at future National Championship Air Races.

Date/Time: April 10, 2012, 10 am (PDT)

Location: Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority Board Room located at 2001 East Plumb Lane, Reno, NV. (Second floor of the terminal building)

NOTE: To access the Board Room from the ski statue at the center of the airport lobby, walk towards the Food Court, take the escalators up towards the "B" Security Checkpoint, and enter through the public door immediately behind the escalators.

News media wishing to attend the press conference should park in the "Media Staging Area" located along the center curb, approximately 300' south of the terminal building. Parking is free for media in this area.

News media who wish to broadcast live during or immediately following the press conference may stage satellite trucks along the inner curb, outside baggage claim, just north of the sky bridge. Please note, vehicles may NOT be left unattended in this area.
