WASHINGTON - The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB)

will meet tomorrow to discuss the August 5, 2010 multi-

vehicle highway crash in Gray Summit, Missouri. During the

meeting, the Board is expected to discuss, at length, the

distractive effects of portable electronic devices when used

by drivers.

This crash involved a series of collisions; first, a pickup

truck struck the back of a stopped truck-tractor.  Following

that, a school bus struck the back of the pickup truck and

finally, the first school bus was struck in the rear by

another school bus that had been following. As a result of

the crash, there were two fatalities and 38 injuries.

The Board will determine the probable cause of this crash

and consider proposed safety recommendations.
