NTSB INVESTIGATING SOUTHWEST AIRLINES RUNWAY EXCURSION

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The National Transportation Safety Board

is investigating an incident today involving a Southwest

Airlines Boeing 737-700 (N799SW) that exited the runway at

Chicago Midway Airport.

 

At approximately 1:33 pm (CDT), while landing at Midway,

Southwest Airlines flight 1919 overran runway 13C. There

were 134 passengers and 5 crew members on board. There are

no reported injuries at this time. The weather at the time

of the incident was reported as rainy with southerly winds.

The NTSB will secure the cockpit voice recorder (CVR) and

flight data recorder (FDR) as well as the Air Traffic

Control communications. Investigators will also interview

the flight crew. 

 

NTSB Senior Investigator Bill English will serve as the

Investigator-In-Charge.  Parties to the investigation are

the Federal Aviation Administration, Southwest Airlines,

Boeing and the Southwest Airlines Pilot Association.

 

Further information regarding the investigation will be

released as it becomes available.
