************************************************************ NTSB ADVISORY ************************************************************ National Transportation Safety Board Washington, DC 20594 February 23, 2011 ************************************************************ NTSB TO RELEASE ADDITIONAL DOCUMENTS ON INVESTIGATION INTO THE COLLISION INVOLVING A U.S. COAST GUARD BOAT AND A RECREATIONAL VESSEL IN SAN DIEGO HARBOR ************************************************************ As part of its continuing investigation into a December 2009 boating accident in San Diego Harbor, the National Transportation Safety Board will release additional factual reports and related documents into the public accident docket on Thursday, February 24, 2011. On December 20, 2009, at 5:40 p.m. PST, a U.S. Coast Guard shore-based response boat carrying five crewmembers collided with a 24-foot recreational vessel carrying 13 passengers in San Diego Harbor during the annual boating Parade of Lights event. The Coast Guard boat was responding to a report of a grounded vessel. The collision resulted in the death of one child and serious injuries to four other passengers on the recreational vessel. None of the crewmembers on the Coast Guard boat were injured. The information being released is factual in nature and does not provide analysis. The docket includes investigative group factual reports, interview transcripts, and other documents. Additional material will continue to be added to the docket as it becomes available. Analysis of the accident, along with conclusions and a determination of probable cause, will come at a later date when the final report on the investigation is completed. The docket material will be made available at 10:00 am ET on February 24 on the NTSB website at http://go.usa.gov/gyF. This will be a document release only.
