RECREATIONAL VESSEL IN SAN DIEGO HARBOR

************************************************************

As part of its continuing investigation into a December 2009

boating accident in San Diego Harbor, the National

Transportation Safety Board will release additional factual

reports and related documents into the public accident

docket on Thursday, February 24, 2011.

On December 20, 2009, at 5:40 p.m. PST, a U.S. Coast Guard

shore-based response boat carrying five crewmembers collided

with a 24-foot recreational vessel carrying 13 passengers in

San Diego Harbor during the annual boating Parade of Lights

event. The Coast Guard boat was responding to a report of a

grounded vessel. The collision resulted in the death of one

child and serious injuries to four other passengers on the

recreational vessel. None of the crewmembers on the Coast

Guard boat were injured.

The information being released is factual in nature and does

not provide analysis. The docket includes investigative

group factual reports, interview transcripts, and other

documents.

Additional material will continue to be added to the docket

as it becomes available. Analysis of the accident, along

with conclusions and a determination of probable cause, will

come at a later date when the final report on the

investigation is completed.

The docket material will be made available at 10:00 am ET on

February 24 on the NTSB website at http://go.usa.gov/gyF.

This will be a document release only. No interviews will be
