NTSB TO MEET ON 2009 MULTIVEHICLE COLLISION IN OKLAHOMA

************************************************************

The National Transportation Safety Board will hold a public

Board meeting on Tuesday, September 28, 2010, at 9:30 a.m.

in its Board Room and Conference Center, 429 L'Enfant Plaza,

S.W., Washington, D.C. There is one agenda item.

On June 26, 2009, a multivehicle accident occurred on

Interstate 44 near Miami, Oklahoma, shortly after a minor

accident in the same vicinity occurred that created a queue

of slowing and stopped vehicles. A truck driver operating a

2008 Volvo truck-tractor in combination with a 2009 Great

Dane refrigerated semitrailer was traveling at approximately

70 mph and collided with the vehicle queue, resulting in 10

fatalities and 5 minor-to-serious injuries in 6 passenger

vehicles in the queue. The driver of the Volvo combination

unit was also seriously injured.
