NTSB LAUNCHES TEAM TO INVESTIGATE STATEN ISLAND

FERRY ACCIDENT 

 

************************************************************

 

The National Transportation Safety Board has launched a go-team to

today's marine accident in Staten Island, New York.  At approximately

9:22 a.m., the Staten Island Ferry Andrew Barberi collided into the St.

George terminal pier. 

 

NTSB Board Member Robert Sumwalt is accompany the 7 member team

and will serve as the on-scene spokesman.  Marine Investigator Eric

Stolzenberg has been designated as the Investigator-in-Charge.  Terry

Williams is the press officer accompanying the team.

 

The U.S. Coast Guard is participating in the investigation. 

 

The Safety Board investigated a 2003 Staten Island Ferry accident

involving the same vessel
