NTSB INVESTIGATING TANKER TRUCK ROLLOVER IN INDIANA

The National Transportation Safety Board has launched a

three-member team to investigate yesterday's tanker truck

explosion under an interstate bridge.

On Thursday, October 22, 2009, at 10:30 am, a truck tractor

in combination with a cargo tank semitrailer loaded with

liquid propane, rolled over while traveling southbound on

Interstate 69 in Indianapolis. The cargo tank was breached

resulting in an explosion and post-crash fire.

The crash and subsequent fire severely damaged the highway

bridge used to carry traffic on I-465 over the access ramp.

As a result of the crash, the driver was transported to an

area hospital for treatment of his injuries and three other

occupants from vehicles that were in proximity to the

explosion and fire were also injured.

Senior Highway Safety Investigator Pete Kotowski is the

Investigator-in-Charge and will lead the NTSB team.
