NTSB TO OPEN PUBLIC DOCKET ON SINKING OF ALASKA RANGER

As part of the Safety Board's investigation into the sinking

of the FV Alaska Ranger in the Bering Sea, the NTSB will

open the public accident docket on Friday, September 4,

2009.

 

On March 23, 2008, the U.S. fishing vessel, Alaska Ranger,

sank in the Bering Sea, 120 nautical miles west of Dutch

Harbor, Alaska. Five of the 47 persons aboard the vessel

died.  The wreckage lies at the bottom of the Bering Sea and

was not examined. 

 

The information being released is factual in nature and does

not provide any analysis. It will include investigative

group factual reports, Marine Board exhibits, interview

transcripts, and other documents from the investigation. 

Additional material will be added to the docket as it

becomes available. Analysis of the accident, along with

conclusions and a determination of probable cause, will come

at a later date when the final report on the investigation

is completed.

 

This will be a document release only; no interviews will be

conducted.

 

The docket will be made available at 9:00 a.m. (EDT) on the
