NTSB SENDING TEAM TO INVESTIGATE FREIGHT TRAIN DERAILMENT
IN ROCKFORD, ILLINOIS
The National Transportation Safety Board is dispatching a go-team to investigate the
freight train derailment in Rockford, Illinois, on Friday, June 19th.
At approximately 8:30 p.m. (CDT) on Friday, a CN freight train derailed several tank
cars carrying ethanol at a grade crossing resulting in an explosion and fire. One fatality
and multiple injuries have been reported.
Railroad Investigator Stephen Klejst is Investigator-in-Charge and will lead a team of 14.
NTSB Board Member Robert Sumwalt is accompanying the team and will serve as the
on-scene spokesman. Keith Holloway is the press officer accompanying the team.
