NTSB SENDS TEAM TO INVESTIGATE
ACCIDENT IN SAN FRANCISCO BAY
************************************************************

The National Transportation Safety Board is sending a
Go Team to San Francisco today to investigate an accident
that damaged a container ship and resulted in the spill of
tens of thousands of gallons of oil into the bay.

The NTSB will investigate the circumstances
surrounding the November 7 accident, in which the MV Cosco
Busan struck a support tower on the San Francisco Bay Bridge
in heavy fog.

Tom Roth-Roffy will serve as Investigator-in-Charge
for the four-member team. NTSB Member Debbie Hersman will
accompany the team and serve as spokesperson for the on-
scene investigation. Peter Knudson is the NTSB press
officer accompanying the team.

When the team arrives in San Francisco this evening,
Knudson will be able to be reached on his cell phone, 202-
557-1350.
