question on linux elf image

Subject: question on linux elf image

hi all,

I have a doubt? why is that kernel has to be compress the image file to copy to boot dir, to boot the kernel. I did not get why we do compressing image file after we compile the kernel code. Any answers would be helpful. Thank you.
