Please Help me out

Hello everyone

                     I am Rajiv , pursuing 3rd semester Bachelor of Engg. in IT branch. I am from Temple City BBSR, India.

                     I am a newbie as far as Linux is concerned. I installed RH 9.0 . The system configured a Generic VESA Driver for me. However it could not configure the sound . My friend suggested me to download the latest alsa kernel . But I don't know anything about recompiling the kernel .

                      Please advice me step by step on what to do.

                      My system configuration is Pentium 4, 128MB RAM, SiS 650 Revision 00 Chipset,SiS 7012 on-board sound.
