It depends on what email server you were running on Free BSD. If you've been running standard Sendmail, it will be quite easy to move it. Here is the testing sequence:

1) create a new user on your Free BSD box, and on the Linux box. Set good passwords on both.
2) Look at the files in /var/mail. If that doesn't exist, look around under /var for a set of files named for your users.
3) Send your new user a few emails, including one with an attachment.
4) Copy the new file that should have appeared under /var/mail to /var/mail on the RH8 box.
5) chown <new user name> /var/mail/<new user name>
6) chmod 600 /var/mail/<new user name>
7) Try and retrieve the email from the RH8 box.

BTW, you should really consider IMAP after you take care of this conversion. It is a huge step forward over POP.
