Depends mostly on the model. Most 1995 compaqs were "special" items. The easiest solution is to override the built in graphics card, disconnecting a jumper on the board, and installing a $10~$25 svga video card or better, that you already knows runs on Linux. BEWARE: as you may know, many compaqs were "software configured", so you may not be able to change some settings, or you may require to set up a dos partition and install configuration software on it. However, when we tried to install RedHat 6.2 it couldn't load the GUI-type installer, because (I think) there was a built in video card on the computer and not a separate one. We probably could have installed it via text mode, but Don (my friend) didn't want just a command prompt interface, which is what I thought we'd end up with if we installed. Is there any way to hack the GUI's into working with his computer?
