Setting up a new squid server

I am going to build two new proxy servers and would like some input
from the knowledgeable people on this list on optimal usage of the
disk and ram on the servers.

The servers has 4Gb Ram and about 150Gb disk space available.
In the Squid-FAQ I read:

"As a rule of thumb on Squid uses approximately 10 MB of RAM per GB of
the total of all cache_dirs (more on 64 bit servers such as Alpha),
plus your cache_mem setting and about an additional 10-20MB. It is
recommended to have at least twice this amount of physical RAM
available on your Squid server."

Using this formula as I am thinking of using the memory and disk space
as follows:

Reserve about 3.2 Gb of the ram for squid and use the rest for other
purposes.

If I apply the above rule of thumb that means that I can use 1.6Gb
(half of 3.2Gb).

If I then use 90Gb for cache-directories it will use 900Mb. Add
20Mb. That leaves me with a cache_mem setting of 680Mb.

Partition table:

/boot 50Mb - Ext3
/squid_cache 95 Gb - Reiserfs (Cache-dirs).
/ about 55 Gb - Ext3 (used for the operating system, logs, etc.)

The servers will only run squid-related programs which will
include apache2 and log-analysers.

I would appreciate any suggestions for the best memory/disk-cache
configuration for this hardware please.

Regards
Johann
