Hi All, Thanks are due to Joshua Penix, who pointed me to: http://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=115442 Briefly, this is a side-effect of the privilege separation feature of sshd. Options are to turn this feature off, or to make sure the limits are elevated before sshd is run in /etc/init.d/sshd. I chose the latter option. Binand PS: Initial query: > [username@allison username]$ ulimit -n > 8192 > [username@allison username]$ ssh localhost ulimit -n > 1024 > > I have to make sure that the username ID can open 8192 descriptors.
