Well thanks to all the Linux managers who helped me reach this decision.
What I needed was a tip off to begin installing the Redhat 2.1 AS from
the SRPMS which are available on their website.
The Messages from Katie Bechtold, Alton L. Pouncey and Sean Lamb
helped me reach
the final destination. Sean Lamb recommended 2 links out of which the first
one was the same as every one recommended http://linuxfromscratch.com
Katie Bechtold also suggested three URLS in all the following URLS
helped get me where I wanted to
http://axiom.anu.edu.au/~okeefe/p2b/buildMin/buildMin.html

Edward Macnaghten's 2 replies completed everything to the tee ::

1. You need to start with something binary - a Kernel, C compiler and
something to enter commands in anyway - even if you are going to compile
the C compiler and kernel....

Please note though - if the reasons you want to do this is to be 100%
certain you have no possibility whatsoever of any "Trojans" in the
binary even that will not work. See Ken Tompsons article at
http://www.acm.org/classics/sep95/homepage.html - The only way to be
100% certain of no Trojans in the binary is to right a kernel and C
compiler yourself starting with machine code......

2. RedHat supply sources as SRPMs, usually on a separate CD (ISO)
to the binaries.

Probably your best bet is to install a minimal RedHat binary system
(deselecting all packages not needed), then to install the base SRPMs,
re-compile the base system (replacing what is there) then install and
compile the SRPMs of applications you want.

Thanks to all the managers who replied .
