boot from USB-Floppy to install Debian

[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index]

Hi everyone,

i try to boot our new Blades from USB-Floppy but nothing works. i took
the debian resucue-disk and copied a customized 2.4.20-Kernel with
configuration shown on http://www.ozetechnology.com/howtos/C1VM_floppy.shtml
onto. the system boots but the Kernel cannot find root-fs on /dev/sdX
(Kernel Panic: VFS Unable to mount root fs)

when i tell syslinux to search for root-fs on /dev/fd0 following happens:

VFS: Insert root floppy and press ENTER
hub.c: new USB device 00:0f-2.1, assigned address 2
 Manufacturer: TEAC
 Product: TEAC-FD05PUB
scsi1: SCSI emulation for USB Mass Storage devices
   [...]
Attached scsi removable disk sda at scsi1, channel0, id 0, lun 0
SCSI device sda: 2880 512-byte hdwr sectors (1MB)
 sda: Write protect is off
 Partition check:
    sda:(7)usb-storage:queuecommand() called
    sda1 sda2 sda3 sda4

VFS: Cannot open root device "fd0" or 02:00
Please append a corect "root=" boot option
Kernel Panic: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on 02:00

When it tells me to insert root-fs en then press ENTER, it automatically
goes on with "usb.c: new USB device..."

Hardware is a DELL PE1655MCs
> Serverworks ServerSet LE 3.0 Chipset
> PERC4/im (LSI Logic MPT) with 2 Seagate 72G Cheetas
