Summary: Kernel compilation 2.4.20

Hi all,

Thank you for your help.

Thanks to
Christian Hack
Jonathan
Lance levsen
Skylar Thompson
and
Michael Cheshire for their answers.

All of them said that I wouldn't have selected my network card module
correctly.

I rebuild the kernel with most of the network cards selected. ( Here is
another problem. I know this is not the right way.) and now the eth0 is
up. But dmesg gives me lots of errors. ( since i selected all possible
network card and the kernel is not able to locate them ).

Why i selected most of the network cards is because after the new kernel is
up an running, I may have to put additional network card ( mostly it will
be eepro or dlink). So i thought why to take a chance and compiled all
modules into kernel. I think the right way to avoid these messages is to
compile additional network cards as modules ( am i right ? ).

I am attaching the dmesg output for your reference. Please advice me on
this regard.

regards

sudheesh
