Hello, all. I am trying to get RedHat 7.2 onto a newly-partitioned, repurposed VALinux 2200-series server with a Mylex hardware RAID controller. The installation goes smoothly once I boot the installer with "linux apic", as recommended by others in this list. (<http://www.linuxmanagers.org/pipermail/linuxmanagers/2002-February/000296. html>) However, the first time the system boots it hangs while loading the DAC960 module (version 2.4.10 of 1 February 2001). It displays nothing after the copyright line for the DAC960 module. I tried booting with the "apic" option from LILO, but to no avail. I understand I have to use the "v2.4.9 RedHat errata kernel" or something, or compile in the DAC960 support from source myself. I could probably handle this once the system is up, but how do I get to that stage? Could someone please post to this list: 1) An explanation as to why the Linux installer can access the RAID array just fine, but doesn't bother to install a version of the kernel that can do the same. Why can't I tell the installer to install the same kernel it's using at the time, and then compile my own later? 2) A step-by-step explanation of what needs to be done to get such a system up and running from a clean, standalone state. Many thanks in advance, - benton -------------- Benton Roberts benton@panix.com _______________________________________________ LinuxManagers mailing list - http://www.linuxmanagers.org submissions: LinuxManagers@linuxmanagers.org subscribe/unsubscribe: http://www.linuxmanagers.org/mailman/listinfo/linuxmanagers
