DSL gateway problem



THE PROBLEM
When I ping our DSL gateway I get "Destination Host Unreachable" 

BACKGROUND
Everything was working fine for 2 years.  We moved 20 miles, set up a
new DSL. That was working fine for a few weeks so we asked our service
provider to cancel our old DSL and the canceled the new one.  That just
got reconnected Tuesday after being down a week. Everything was working
fine from Tuesday until this morning (Friday). This morning it acted the
same way it did last Tuesday when they terminated my DSL. I called tech
support and they assured me that they could ping the gateway.

I hooked another machine up directly to the DSL modem and it could ping
the gateway so it does not appears to be "my" problem.  I am starting to
suspect the ethernet card but I don't know how to verify it.  I can ping
the card at 66.12.61.54 but I don't know if that means anything.

I am running Mandrake 8.1 on a dual Athlon machine.
We are hosting our own domain and mail.
I am running iptables and portsentry

My local net is 192.168.0
My IP is 66.12.61.54 and the gateway is 66.12.61.53

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.
