Summary Mail Daemon comparison

I would like to thank all of you who replied, as you might imagine
this was a somewhat loaded question. Every reply was well thought out
and had excellent suggestions, in the end I decided to go with postfix
as it is fairly straightforward to maintain. As far as performance
goes, I really did not recieve hard numbers, but the impression was
that q-mail and postfix were the way to go. As far as log file
analysis, the suggestions ranged from webmin to pflogsum and a few
others. It turns out they are going to parse the files with a
custom application. One of these days I am going to get around to
playing with q-mail:).

CJ> Hello LinuxManagers,

CJ> I know this has been asked before, but I would like an up to date
CJ> response regarding various mail daemons. I have been asked to set up
CJ> a mail server for a large organization to mail surveys to their
CJ> employees and my experience is largely with sendmail. I was
CJ> wondering about other "free" mail packages that have very good
CJ> performance. My responsibility is to do initial setup and
CJ> configuration at which point I will be out of the picture. The other
CJ> requirement is to come up with a solution that allows easy parsing
CJ> of the log files (message qeue etc..) by a bunch of primarily
CJ> Windows administrators. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

CJ> Best regards,
CJ> Chris mailto:chrisj@cbxtech.com
