Can I connect to the internet (gprs) through the xterminal?

Hi, I have an embarrassing application to check "La Quiniela" which is like a daily loto here in argentina.

I did it in Go language, to force my self to update Go language in my phone and do some Jedi training :-)

Can I check via any script of command if I have a working internet connection?

Or can I do something like:

gprs connect
