Performance Issue

Hy,
testing tgt under Debian Squeeze (i386 and amd64) gives me poor 
performance writing to a virtual tape.
It reaches maximum 20Mb/s where a simple scp would reach 97 Mb/s.
Where do I have to look to investigate ?
