What's the point in supporting that old kernels with new versions of
tools? I doubt, that people can resolve all the other dependencies, or
convert all the modpronbe files to /etc/modprobe.d/ at the same time.
Fixing the looping bug sounds good, but adding support to optimize for
ancient kernels seems a bit too much to me, can't we just return, in
case we can not check the current state?
