Yes, I wished to say, after reading Dave's explanation, that SSB mode
dominated on HF does not matter the frequency values of two tones as long as
the gap is maintained, i.e. 200Hz gap for 300bps operation and now I am
guessing the soundmodem users who knew this were successful for the
operation.
My word "conventional" means for the hardware TNCs from historical
viewpoints.
