We just implemented MSTP in our datacenter, I could see it coming in handy to help interoperate.  Not being a programmer, there is likely little I could offer to help- but if so, let me know.

Is it currently usable/stable?

It never got packaged or widely used.
I want to do something better but never seem to get the time.
