In some recent distro settings mcelog gets noisy on start-up complaining about possibly off-line cpus: mcelog[4380]: mcelog: Warning: cpu 0 offline?, imc_log not set mcelog[4380]: : No such file or directory mcelog[4380]: mcelog: Warning: cpu 1 offline?, imc_log not set mcelog[4380]: : No such file or directory .. and so on for every CPU .. This happens because the msr module isn't loaded by default and therefore opening /dev/cpu/<n>/msr fails. As they are now, these messages are less than helpful. But before proposing a patch I am wondering if this could just silently fail.
