No, this doesn't help.

Steps tonight:

1. Wake the computer from sleep. (USB device was off).
2. Weird problem with an email notifier. Log out, log in.
3. Open qjackctl, watch "messages," turn on the USB device.
4. See "ALSA connection change" and "ALSA connection graph change."
5. Start jack.

control device hw:1
control open "hw:1" (No such file or directory)
audio_reservation_init
Acquire audio card Audio0
Acquire audio card Audio-1
creating alsa driver ... hw:1|hw:0,0|1024|2|44100|0|0|nomon|swmeter|-|32bit
control device hw:1
control open "hw:1" (No such file or directory)
ALSA lib pcm_hw.c:1401:(_snd_pcm_hw_open) Invalid value for card
ALSA: Cannot open PCM device alsa_pcm for playback. Falling back to capture-only mode

6. Stop jack.
7. sudo depmod
8. Start jack - same problem.
9. Switch m-audio on and off again. Start jack - same problem.

So, off to reboot YET AGAIN. I'm starting to run out of expletives.

Is there a solution to this problem? How does Ubuntu Studio 12.04 handle it?
