Jack1 will skip cycles if necessary. This may sound like an xrun 
if takes too long, but it's a different thing altogether.

A more basic problem seems to me that *every* port creation/destruction/
connection/disconnection will mean a callback into every client which
has these enabled. This just doesn't scale when a script, session manager
or even a single big app (e.g. Ardour)  performs hundreds of those ops
within a second.
