... ciao:

    from kernel.org

    stable: 2.6.27.57 2010-12-09
    stable: 2.6.31.14 2010-07-05
    stable: 2.6.32.27 2010-12-09
    stable: 2.6.33.7 2010-08-02
    stable: 2.6.34.7 2010-09-13
    stable: 2.6.35.9 2010-11-22
    stable: 2.6.36.2 2010-12-09

    and date sorted:

    stable: 2.6.31.14 2010-07-05
    stable: 2.6.33.7 2010-08-02
    stable: 2.6.34.7 2010-09-13
    stable: 2.6.35.9 2010-11-22
    stable: 2.6.27.57 2010-12-09
    stable: 2.6.32.27 2010-12-09
    stable: 2.6.36.2 2010-12-09

tends to suggest 'vastly' different design goals for each of these branches. i've not had much luck finding out what those might be. any ideas or hints where to look would be appreciated ...
