Andrew,

This should have to deal with either your BIOS setup or a jumper inside your computer. Obviously a NO DIALTONE has nothing to deal with a username/password issue. The username/password issue comes up after getting a modem carrier which comes after dialing.

I think I may have issues with my user name and password, but that is I
think irrelevant to this. When I call the number form a phone I hear dial up
sounds. So, even if I have to deal with user name/password issues, it should
still dial.

Andrew,

Yes indeed, the boot in recovery mode did it perfectly. I took advantage of
this day to review the ungrab-windom.c code and the intel 537 code.
However, I still get a NO DIALTONE. Can you manually dial using your phone
appartus the phone numbers in /etc/wvdial.conf and ~/wvdial.conf and tell me
whether you get a DAILTONE and a carrier ?

Antonio,

You may download
http://vouters.dyndns.org/Intel/ungrab-winmodem-20120705.tar.gz I added to
it 537 modems at least the ones handled by the Intel 537EP driver.
Also I changed somehow the code.

Awaiting for Andrew's response.
Best regards to both.

Done. Instead of using the CD I just booted into recovery mode and did
it. I hope that accomplishes the same goal.

Dear Andrew,

I just realized that I was not erasing /etc/init.d/537_boot but
/etc/rc.d/537_boot. This works on a Fedora system but not on a
Debian/Ubuntu system. This problem was specific to makefile_537. So I
modified my
makefile_537 to correctly perform this action at the very beginning of
the uninstall actions. I took advantage to also move this action at
the very beginning of the makefile_536 in the uninstall make target.

Meanwhile your system has crashed. Can you boot the Ubuntu Rescue CD
and erase /etc/init.d/537_boot ?

Thank you so much to have removed the ModemManager. I hope I shall at
last be able to get rid from the NO DIALTONE message, but I am not so
sure.
There are things Intel did I do not understand in the driver. This is
specifically related to your modem board. I must dig into disassembled
code
(537core.lib) to attempt to understand.
