Francesco,

Sometimes wvdial does not find the modem port(s). You can still set
up a wvdial.conf file using /dev/modem as the modem port and attempt a
dialout if wvdial had worked you could have seen something like .

[Dialer Defaults]
Modem = /dev/ttySL0
Baud = 460800
Init1 = ATZ
Init2 = ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0
ISDN = 0
Modem Type = Analog Modem
; Phone = <Target Phone Number>
; Username = <Your Login Name>
; Password = <Your Password>

which was not the case, but you could run $ sudo /etc/wvdial.conf
and add the following to it :

[Dialer Defaults]
Modem = /dev/modem
Baud = 115200
Init1 = ATZ
Init2 = ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0
ISDN = 0
Modem Type = Analog Modem
Phone = 3334445555 <--- Your ISP phone number goes here
Username = Your_Login_Name
Password = Your_Password
Carrier Check = no

Attempt a dialout, and see if you can connect. Let us know if this
helped get you online.

Regards,

Antonio
