NASA INVITES MEDIA TO MOBILE LAUNCHER MOVE PHOTO OPPORTUNITY
CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. -- Media are invited to a photo opportunity as
NASA's new mobile launcher (ML) moves to Launch Pad 39B at the
agency's Kennedy Space Center, Fla., on Wednesday, Nov. 16, at 6 a.m.
EST. Media should arrive at Kennedy's Press Site by 5:30 a.m. for
transportation to the viewing sites.
The move will not be shown live on NASA Television, but video
highlights will air during Video File segments.
The mobile launcher will be moved from next to Kennedy's Vehicle
Assembly Building to the launch pad to collect data from structural
and functional engineering tests. This data will be used for the next
phases of construction. The 355-foot-tall ML is being modified to
support the Space Launch System, the heavy-lift rocket that will
launch astronauts farther into space than ever before, create
high-quality jobs here at home, and provide the cornerstone for
America's future human space exploration efforts.
Journalists without NASA Kennedy accreditation need to apply for
credentials by 4 p.m. Nov. 14. International media accreditation for
this event is closed. Badges can be picked up at the Kennedy Space
Center Badging Office on State Road 405 by 3 p.m. on Nov. 15. Media
must apply for credentials online at:
https://media.ksc.nasa.gov
Any updates on the move will be available at 321-867-2525.
NASA announced plans for the development of the SLS in September. It
will carry NASA's new Orion spacecraft, cargo, equipment and science
experiments to space, providing a safe, affordable and sustainable
means of reaching asteroids and other destinations in the solar
system.
Video b-roll of the move will air on the NASA TV's Video File. For
