Re: iscsi extreeemely slow

Sorry you are having problems.

Do you have a support case open at netapp or is there a reason you don't want to open a case?

there is only one iscsi device. the problem seems to be worst when writing to iscsi. reading from iscsi to local seems to work fine (at least now).

some examples:
copying a 3 meg file from local to iscsi was perfectly fine (about 0.02
seconds) the first ten times. the eleventh is suddenly:
real    0m6.435s

larger files suffer more. for example copying a 70 meg file from local to iscsi was the first time:
real    0m0.533s
the second:
real    2m21.014s
the third was even slower, about 5 mins.
then it went in about 5-10 seconds about ten times in a row, which sounds about right. however the next its suddenly 6 mins again.

I've tried tweaking all those parameters quite a lot, with no noticeable effect.

> And what kernel (do a "uname -a") and NIC are you using?

2.6.9-34.EL, NIC is Altima (nee Broadcom) AC9100 Gigabit Ethernet.
I've also witnessed the same behaviour on another system with:
2.6.9-22.0.2.ELsmp with Broadcom Corporation NetXtreme BCM5704 Gigabit
Ethernet

> Could you also send your iscsi.conf file?

I've gone through many revisions, at the moment its:
Continuous=no
HeaderDigest=never
DataDigest=never
ImmediateData=yes
PingTimeout=0
#MaxRecvDataSegmentLength=262144
#FirstBurstLength=262144
#MaxBurstLength=16777216
#TCPWindowSize=1048576
DiscoveryAddress=x.x.x.x

The first four options were suggested by NetApp.

thanks for your help,
fred
