So let's recap:

- linux-iscsi-5.0.0.0.3rc6-363
- kernel 2.6.13.4 [I've had the same issue trying to compile that version of 
linux-iscsi on 13.2, 12.x, etc]
- gcc 3.3.6
- glibc 2.3.5+nptl

I guess my initial question still remains:

What would you recommend in terms of any fairly recent 2.6.x kernels and 
linux-iscsi/open-iscsi version? I would really like to start from a fairly 
'this is known to work' place before I will begin to debug the 
freezing/kernel panics issues.
