FYI: GNU Crypto and Jessie are now a part of Classpath

We've merged GNU Crypto and Jessie into GNU Classpath, where we think they will play a much larger and more important role in Free Java systems. Neither project will be actively maintained any longer on its own; new development will continue on in GNU Classpath.

Jessie was always a personal project of mine; I won't be maintaining the independent version any longer. GNU Crypto is a part of the GNU project, and we've decided not to continue it as an independent package. We will keep the web sites and mailing lists for both projects up for now, so users of these packages (who are not also users of GNU Classpath) can still ask for help if they need it.

But we encourage you to also check out GNU Classpath! We've been making amazing progress with this project, and don't see that momentum ending soon. Check us out at

Also note that while I am not continuing development of either project independently, you are always free to fork these for your own use, and we would entertain reviving GNU Crypto if someone wanted to continue developing it for other purposes (that is, if you have a use for GNU Crypto outside of Classpath's more narrow goal of completing its JCE providers) then please send us a proposal. If you are interested in using Jessie for some other purpose, let me know about it.

Thanks, and Happy Hacking.
