Hi,

I am not a great fan of denoise filters, mainly because too often I
prefer the noise to the loss of sharpness that commonly results from
their usage, so I rarely used them, but   I was reasonably satisfied
with my experiments with the "DeNoise" plug-in, which I think that now
comes with the latest versions of Gimp. If not, I am pretty sure that
you can find it in the official plug-in registry
(http://registry.gimp.org/).

I have tried Greycstoration a couple of times, but definitively, I
can't figure out how I can put it to work without smoothing the image
to a level beyond imagination. In fact, I think I have already saved a
couple of those experiments as 'creative abstract experiments'. I am
pretty sure that my problem is that I don't have a clue of what 90% of
its options do, so I was wondering if anyone can point me a link where
i can find instructions of use that are easy to read and understand.
