Oh, ahh !, you could be right and it may be my mistake but I thought
that I had read that recent versions of gimp did 16bit, which is why I
was sad to find JS's page http://gimp-win.sourceforge.net/ saying only
WinXP etc :(

Link? So would that satisfy my requirement for 16bit TIFFs that Dave
Coffins DCRAW produces ?
(btw I need the 16bit headroom to process variable star data in IRIS etc)
