GIMP supports (as far as I know) only 8-it color channels, hence it won't support 16-

heard of it. That's the big difference with Cinepaint (previously FilmGIMP).
I suspect 16-bit channel support could be the issue that eventually pushes me
elsewhere. :-( 8-bit channels picket-fence all too quickly, not to mention the
degredation of my 12-bit per channel raw images to 8 bit before I even start editing.
