saving default settings

Can anyone please help me figure out how to save tool settings in Gimp
(if it's possible) so that I don't have to enter the same values over
and over?

A few examples of what I'd like to do:

* in the Scale Image dialog I almost always use the same numbers - is
there any way to have the fields pre-populated with something other
than the current dimensions of the image?

* When using the unsharp mask filter, the defaults I get are 5.0 / 0.5
/ 0.  I *never* use these values, is there any way I can save other
defaults?

* In the "Save as JPEG" dialog I get default Quality value 97, can I
change this?

Especially on that last one I've tried working with the "Save
Defaults" and "Load Defaults" buttons but they don't work for me.  Any
advice?
