At least I would prefer having the GIMPVS project files for GIMP, gtk+
etc in SVN, and distributed as part of official tarballs. Either in
the "build" modules where there are (presumably outdated) VS8 project
files for glib already, or in each module.

So, take this as a hint, please open a bug report and attach the
project (solution?) files...

Or is GIMPVS using nmake makefiles? If they are significantly
improved/diffferent from those already present in the glib, pango, and
GIMP sources, it would be nice to have some discussion whether there
is any sensible way to combine them. I don't know if Hans Breuer (who
maintains the nmake makefiles for glib, pango and gtk+) reads this
list, so let's have that discussion on gtk-devel-list.
