Andreas Waechter:
If you're not a programmer, it wouldn't be known to
you that what you have encountered is a wonderfully
well known programming error.
Software is full of entities called pointers, bits
of software that reference, or "point to" other
bits of software. If someone forgets to assign a
known location to a pointer entity before using it,
its default contents are zero, or null, what you
see there spelled out in hexadecimal as
"0x00000000". This is called a "null pointer error",
and is such a common problem that all modern
computers make location "null" unreadable,
especially to make this kind of error happen when a
null pointer bug is in the software.
This doesn't solve your problem, just confirms that
you've described it clearly. Now what you want to do
is report the problem where the people who will
solve it will find your description. In general,
that's not this list. Instead, go here:
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/browse.cgi?product=GIMP
and follow the directions for creating a new bug
report.

Hi,
I got the installer for 2.4 from
http://gimp-win.sourceforge.net/stable.html
The install went fine (at least the installer didn't
report any problems). But when I start gimp, I get
the startup screen and when it says "Starting
extensions extension script fu"
I get a box saying:
---------------------------
GIMP Startup: gimp-2.4.exe - Application Error
---------------------------
The instruction at "0x78001d0b" referenced memory at
"0x00000000". The memory could not be "read".
Click on OK to terminate the program
Click on CANCEL to debug the program
---------------------------
OK Cancel
---------------------------
This is reproducable - any time I start the new gimp.
System is Win2K.
Any hints at how to solve the problem?
Btw, is the GTK now included in the Gimp installer?
I didn't find the extra GTK installer that was
necessary for previous Gimp versions.
Andreas
