You are a very kind man, thanks so much for taking time to explain all this............I don't know how to thank you... I will do my best and follow the instructions. I think I will ask my husband to help me out too.....

As for your fiance, I know a lot of women who get paranoid and insecure like that, once you marry her, the attitude will change, you can count on that............so best of luck to you too. Once I get my sparkle, I will share it with you.

Thanks again and again,
you're awesome !

Goodnight.
Caroline

Caroline,

The main trick is just to put a single dot on the
transparent layer over the point where you want
the sparkle in the image layer. In point of fact,
it works better yet to just put several dots in
the transparent layer, then cut and paste the one
you like to the place you want the sparkle to
appear. This is because the sparkle is drawn
differently depending on where the dot is placed
in the image, though there seem to be only two
different sparkles, one larger, one smaller. If you
just start with a separate transparent image, and
use the instructions I gave you, on that image,
until you get a sparkle to appear, you can then
copy it to the image of the diamond, paste it into a
transparent layer on top of where you want it to
appear on the diamond, and adjust the transparent
layer opacity in the layers dialog until you like
what you see.

The big thing with GIMP is to work on copies of
images, so you don't have to be afraid of making a
mistake, and to realize that <ctrl-z> undoes the
last step that changed the image, so you can try
lots of stuff until you get something acceptable
to your needs.

Do what I told you up to the point where you don't
see how to do the next step, and then ask about
that; we can work through this a step at a time, and
there are lots of knowledgeable and helpful people
reading this list. I'm in Tempe, AZ, so I'm not
likely to drop in on you, even discounting my
paranoically jealous, very insecure, 54 year old
fiancee.

This works in GIMP 2.3.19, but it might be overkill
for your needs.

Put a transparent layer over the existing image.

With the pencil tool, and the single pixel brush,
put a white dot everywhere you want a sparkle to be.

On the image menu, do:

<image>=>Filters= >Light and Shadow=>Sparkle

and take the default settings by clicking OK.

Each dot you made will become a huge sparkle, which
you can now merge down onto the gemstone.

If that's too much for your needs, while the once
transparent layer is still a separate layer, on the
layers dialog, do an

Alpha to Selection

then from the image menu do a

Select=>Invert Selection
Select=>Grow (by 1)
Edit=>Clear

This will trim away the outside row of pixels
off of the sparkles, making them smaller.

I hope that was what you needed.

xantian.
