GIMP and tiff images | |

This is probably not unique to GIMP on Windows, but I'll ask here first
anyway.
1. Will GIMP open 16-bit TIFFs at all?
ufraw tries to convert them, but I end up with just a solid black image.
Without ufraw installed, it just errors out. I realize GIMP is only
(currently) 8 bit per channel; maybe that's why.
2. How can I make GIMP save EXIF in 8-bit TIFFs?
No matter what I do, it's stripped out. It's saved with JPGs, etc., but
not 8-bit TIFFs. They open fine, but the EXIF doesn't survive. I'm
currently converting RAW to 8-bit JPGs, since I want to keep EXIF, but
I'd like to convert to TIFF instead.
Thanks.
