Okay, this is what I was hoping for.  What is really needed is an
enthusiastic programmer with the necessary skills (i.e. not me
unfortunately) and there is no massive technical barrier preventing this
(at least in theory).

I know the Xine Video player allows you to use Windows DLL files to get
support for more Codecs, and it seems as if that code came inderictly from
Wine but I wouldn't know where to go from there.
