Okay.  Here is what to do about this bug:
1) Install GIMP 1.2.2 in case it was fixed in the next release.
2) Attempt to reproduce this problem.  If fixed, yay.  If not, go to 3.
3) File a bug report in bugzilla, reporting as much information about
the bug as possible.  If you are not sure how to use bugzilla, send it
to the developer mailing list explaining why you haven't submitted it to
bugzilla and provide all relevant information.

The developers will need to know:
what version of GIMP you are running and what the source was
what your system is
how to reproduce this bug with step-by-step directions
exact text of all error messages received.

Many of the main developers don't follow the user list very closely
(lack of time. they're busy).  But bug reports in bugzilla should be
checked frequently and most of them read the developer mailing list.  It
is really important to tell them how to reproduce the bug.  If they
can't make it happen, it is hard for them to fix it.
Bug reports are much appreciated by those developers.  (Unless you try
to give them bug reports on the 1.3 branch right now when it isn't ready
yet).
